- That's a damned good CPS rate for a cheapie (ie: no hardware
- compression?). I've used a Zoltrix 14400 internal modem with a Sharp
- PC4521 XT and got about 1370 CPS as the highest rate -- just the same
- as my 486DX2/66 (without compression). Your rates sound a little too
- high.

- More importantly, don't bother getting something like an external
- modem unless you have another computer and want the extra expense. On
- both you will need an upgraded i/o card using a 16550A UART. Internal
- on an XT should be just fine as long as the *modem* has this UART chip
- on-board.
